About us
South East Fibre Exports is situated in Eden on the NSW Far South Coast. We are one of the regions major employers with 80 direct jobs within the mill and a further 300 indirect jobs associated with the mills operation. SEFE is an exporter of high grade woodchip to the paper manufactures of Asia.
The main SEFE market is in Japan where annual paper and paperboard production is around 32 million tonnes third in global output behind North America and China. The Japanese market has a recycled paper collection rate of over 70% of annual output ( 23 million tonnes ) with 19 million tonnes used domestically and the balance exported, mainly to China. SEFE exports both Hardwood and Softwood woodchips from our Eden plant.
Woodchips are drawn from both native forest sources and plantations with plantations becoming an increasing part of the mix and likely to be the key to meeting continued sharp increases in demand in rapidly growing markets.
The sudden and recent emergence of biomass power generation will generate serious competition for wood fibre in the future as the world seeks to move away from fossil fuel use and this competition is likely to provide a serious challenge to the pulp and paper sector in resource supply.
