SEFE  operates an environmental management system (EMS) which is accredited under the international environmental standard ISO 14001. Click Here for the accreditation certificate

This management system applies in all operations operated by SEFE within the Eden chipmill site.

The SEFE environmental management system identifies each environmental aspect of SEFE operations and assesses those aspects according to significance. Operating plans are then put in place to manage the various aspects.

The EMS is audited both internally and externally and in an everyday sense acts as a strong internal discipline mechanism for environmental management at SEFE.

Licences such as the SEFE EPA Licence are a key part of the SEFE EMS. ISO14001 includes a direct commitment to ongoing improvement in environmental management so there is a continuous program of monitoring and upgrades to existing systems as well as the introduction of new environmental assets.

Stormwater collection pits, bunding to fuel storage and water treatment plant and monitoring are examples of systems in place. The plan to build a wood waste fired power plant at SEFE is an example of major capital investment in continuous improvement by changing the SEFE power source from a non renewable fossil fuel to a renewable fuel.

Many old habits are changed by the introduction of a well directed environmental management system.
